Even though OnePlus has only been manufacturing smartphones for a little over two years, they have achieved remarkable success. They have begun to compete with industry heavyweights like Samsung and Huawei. The goal of OnePlus is to offer an affordable smartphone with flagship features, and they unquestionably succeeded. The OnePlus 3, which debuted on June 14, 2016, is the most recent addition.

Design

The OnePlus 3's appearance is not particularly distinctive. It resembles other Android phones on the market in terms of appearance largely. It resembles the HTC 10. It has rounded bezels and an aluminum body, which looks elegant and offers a secure grip. The ergonomics have undoubtedly been enhanced.

On the left side, OnePlus has included a button that resembles the silent mode button on the iPhone. It can be switched to silent mode to silence the notifications. Given that I use it frequently, I think this addition is pretty nice and helpful. The protrusion of the camera was something else I noticed. This design doesn't appeal to me; a unified body would have been far superior. The Huawei P9-like uniform body looks great. On the screen's bottom, there is an oblong button. The fingerprint scanner is located here.

Performance

The OnePlus 3 offers 64GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM. A slot for an expandable memory card is not present. The lack of a MicroSD card slot in its predecessor was one of its shortcomings. It is sadly lacking here because it is a requirement for any Android smartphone. The Snapdragon 820 CPU powers the OnePlus 3. This is one of the most potent CPUs available in a modern smartphone. Two dual-core CPUs with varying power make up the chip. Both Kyro chipsets have twin cores, one with a speed of 2.15 GHz and the other with a speed of 1.6 GHz. This phone is capable of handling any challenging condition, including multitasking and gaming.

The non-removable 3000mAh battery of the OnePlus 3 includes quick charging capabilities. In a brief period—nearly 30 minutes—it can be charged up to 60%. Users of the OnePlus 2 clamored for this function a great deal, with Brilliant battery life. With moderate to heavy use, it lasts all day. The fact that the phone overheats when multitasking indicates the need for a cooler processing system.

Camera

The 16 MP back camera on the OnePlus 3 now supports optical image stabilization and an LED flash. It also has a 4K video camera. The camera produces respectable images in all lighting conditions. It works well in environments with good lighting. Samsung Galaxy S7 continues to be the market leader in this niche. The new camera app is a huge improvement over the old one. It launches more quickly and automatically focuses right away. Additionally, you have the option of operating in Manual mode, which enables you to make adjustments like a pro. The 8MP front camera is good for the occasional selfie.

Display

A 5.5" "Optic" AMOLED screen is present. For further durability, the screen is also composed of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The screen has a 1080 x 1920 resolution and a 401 PPI density. The display is clear and colorful. In bright sunshine, the screen is pretty viewable, however, boosting the brightness raises the saturation too much.

Additionally, OnePlus has included "Night Mode," which is akin to iOS's Night shift. The Night Mode does not have an auto mode compared to Night Shift. Reading in low light is made more comfortable by this function.

Software

The Oxygen OS launcher is used with Android 6.01 Marshmallow on the OnePlus 3. It is uncertain whether or not timely Android upgrades will be offered.

It doesn't include any annoying programs that you won't use. Just applications. Bloatware is a common feature of Android devices, but not on this model. The fingerprint reader has reached its peak. It is as swift as a bullet and has unmatched accuracy. The fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 2 was still annoying.

Additionally, OnePlus has incorporated some cool gestures for the phone. To open the camera, double-click the power button. To check for fresh notifications or to simply check the clock, you can raise your hand above the screen. To unlock it, double-tap the screen. These improvements undoubtedly result in a better experience.

New Features

A few features that their previous flagship killer lacked have been added, according to OnePlus. The OnePlus 3 now comes with NFC. Online and mobile transactions are both possible with NFC. This will be helpful as services like Android Pay and Google Wallet are starting to gain popularity, notably in the US and the UK.

A quicker camera app and a few gestures are among the new software enhancements (Read the software section for more information). It now uses Oxygen OS as its launcher and runs Android 6.01 Marshmallow.

Despite being smaller, the battery pack now has quick-charging capabilities. It can be charged to 60% of its capacity in 30 minutes. The OnePlus 3 can only be quickly charged using its charger, which is included in the box, so there is a catch.

Wrap-up

Undoubtedly, the OnePlus 3 is a fantastic smartphone. This is a significant step for OnePlus in entering the smartphone market. It is still a fantastic phone, though we would have liked to see wireless charging and an expandable memory card slot. You get the features of a flagship smartphone for the price of a hard-to-find mid-range smartphone. The OnePlus 3 offers the best value for your money. I'm interested in how OnePlus develops into a major smartphone player over the coming few years.
